Lynda Cronin The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation-public art proposal 2017 Ireland

Originally a British military barracks erected in the 18th century during the Irish rebellion, these buildings later became a boys refomatory run by a religious order and in the 20th century fell into disrepair and was partially renovated in 1975, becoming the Peace and Reconciliation Centre. The 18th century orphanage building remains in disrepair and this project focuses on this site as part of an imagining vision, where the building is restored giving breath to the children that came here after World War Two, through the activities of the Irish Red Cross Society as well as encompassing the plight of refugee children today.
